ISJ President 2020.8

 Toshifumu Sato

[Inaugural address of the ISJ President]

(from Journal of imaging Society of Japan, Vol.59, No.4, 2020)

The Imaging Society of Japan was established as an electrophotographic society in 1958. It was renamed to the current name in 1998, the 40th anniversary of its founding, and has expanded its technical fields to include digital imaging technology. Furthermore, in 2010, we registered the establishment of a corporation and started anew as the "General Incorporated Association Imaging Society of Japan ". It was more than 10 years ago that I took over the chairman from former director Mitsuo Togashi under the past president Koji Hirakura. I realized the weight of a general incorporated association.

In 2018, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of our founding, and carried out projects such as copying machine heritage, commemorative symposiums, and publications. The Articles of Incorporation clearly state that "the purpose is to study academics and technologies related to images, exchange knowledge, promote their development, and contribute to the promotion of science and technology."

As DX (Digital transformation) is advancing, transformation of the imaging field is remarkable. We must promote new technical fields including interdisciplinary fields. Development and utilization of human resources are also indispensable. We would like many members to be involved and develop various businesses to revitalize the society.

Furthermore, I would like to contribute to the development of imaging technology not only through the own projects, but also through collaboration with related academic societies in Japan and overseas, and activities by the Federation of Imaging Societies established in 2014. The Imaging Society of Japan hopes to develop together with its members, and we would like to receive your frank opinions, advice, and suggestions regarding the activities of the Society.
